What is subject line segmentation?

Subject line segmentation allows different subject lines to be sent to different user. This feature in Taxi makes it easy for marketers to set up multiple subject lines for an email in the Taxi editor and associate them with different audiences.  Then Taxi uses the dynamic content capabilities of your email platform to ensure the correct subject line is delivered to each segment of the audience.

Checking ‘use a segment set’ will enable subject line segmentation.  

A segment set divides all the recipients of the email into groups.  Each person can only be in one group - as each person will only get one subject line!

A subject line box will appear in the editor for each segment:

To preview the subject for a particular segment use the segments preview menu:

Note that the segmentation symbol shows in the subject line when segmentation is enabled and that the segment set and segment name are shown before the subject line

Setting up a segment set

Segment sets can be set up in the segmentation section of Taxi

Note that the ESP code is not added at this stage.  Setting up a segment set is about telling Taxi what your groups are called so that you can enter the correct content.   Once the segments have been created and added to the segment set the ESP code can be added for each connector.

Adding ESP Code

A list of the connectors on your account appears next to each segment set.  

Following the ‘set up’ or ‘edit settings’ link for the connector will allow you to add ESP code for the segment set:

The code usually forms an if/elseif/else structure.  This means that the last segment is the one that is used for other and unknown values in your data.  You can drag the segments up and down in order to put your default segment last.  To work out what columns and values can be used you will need to look at your data in your email platform.
